We’ve had this one on repeat, which is a boring way to say I have not been very good at putting anything else on. I tried. I lasted one song. Then I came back.

Need U is Rainier’s album: eight tracks, the title doing the whole emotional job in two syllables. Late room, somebody missing, the speakers still going because turning them off would make the quiet too honest. Neon line-art face on black, the kind of artwork that looks like a number you almost called. I almost called. I put the record on instead.

Play it when the house is yours. Play it when it isn’t. The record doesn’t care if you’re being brave about it. It just keeps the lights the colour of almost. Leave it. That’s what I did.
