Revibed Isn't Digging

The old dream was every private press, every Greek disco 45, every thing you spent a decade hunting (the one you remember by the sleeve, not the Discogs number) available at checkout.

Resident Advisor published it this week: an online shop called Revibed accused of selling unlicensed vinyl rips without clearing the masters. The pitch was crate culture as a service, rare records digitised and yours in a click. The catch, if you still believe in one, is that the people who pressed those records didn’t get asked. A shop built on somebody else’s collection is not a dig. That’s a raid.

We’ve all lived the mp3-blog years. We all downloaded the rip of the 12" that never got repressed. That was a bedroom economy with no checkout, and this is a storefront, which is a different temperature. The second you put a price on an uncleared transfer, you’re not archiving the underground. You’re metering it.

We run a label that still believes in the physical object and the person who found it. Flip until something holds. If the holding is just a WAV of a record you never paid for, keep walking. The crate was never supposed to be a SKU.
