Easy on Your Own

Alvvays came back with Blue Rev, named for a Canadian cooler and built for the night drive that doesn’t end.

Blue Rev is out, and “Pharmacist” has been in Canadian cars since July. Toronto and Polyvinyl, named after a cooler you drank in a park at nineteen. Five years after Antisocialites they had a flooded basement, lost demos, and a border that wouldn’t let them rehearse, then they went to Los Angeles and played the whole thing like a dare.

“Easy On Your Own?” is the one, with “Belinda Says” and “Very Online Guy” right behind it: shoegaze that still has a chorus. Out here it’s the fluorescent of a 24-hour pharmacy through the windshield, Molly Rankin’s voice doing what it does to a winter.
